Cristyne L. Nicholas
Cristyne L. Nicholas was appointed President & CEO of NYC & Company, formerly the New York Convention & Visitors Bureau (NYCVB), in October 1999.
As a leader of one of New York’s key industries, Ms. Nicholas has spearheaded numerous initiatives that have placed her at the forefront of the efforts to revitalize New York City’s $25 billion tourism industry following the events of September 11, 2001. These initiatives include: creating the city’s first-ever consumer television advertising campaign, crafting New York’s first city-wide travel packages, re-launching NYC’s Official Tourism Web Site, www.nycvisit.com, and producing major citywide winter and summer marketing promotions.
Prior to joining NYC & Company, Ms. Nicholas served in the administration of New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani as director of communications in which capacity she was charged with globally promoting New York’s renaissance.
Ms. Nicholas has recently been appointed to the International Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus Board of Directors and to the Arts, Education and Tourism Advisory Council of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. She has been named one of the 25 most influential people in the meetings industry by Meeting News and one of the most powerful women in travel for two consecutive years by Travel Agent Magazine. She sits on the boards of the Big Apple Greeter, Yale Women’s Campaign School, the Broadway Association, the New York University Tisch School for the Arts, the New York Society of Association Executives and NYC2012, New York City’s Olympic committee.
A Brooklyn native, Ms. Nicholas attended New York-area public schools and graduated from Rutgers University in 1987 with a B.A. in political science and a minor in French. She resides in Manhattan with her husband, golf writer Nick Nicholas, and their basset hound Gabriella.
